Starless Night

Hints of Why and the Not so Great Escape.
Largo's Entry

Day 23

The wagon burned. The panic was the usual sort of screams and chaos was frequent. Stelhen admittedly did a good job in quelling down the fire along with Chakka’s placement with the water. Admittedly, I am feeling a bit unhelpful for that matter- What with my idea of grabbing the barrel from the mess wagon. Either or, I still thanked Gehrak for his help and acquired his assistance again in placing the drum back inside the wagon.

From the looks of it that this no accident. Six members from the caravan are gone along with the resident alchemist, Ruben. Tracks in the dirt revealed lizard-folk. Hells knows what those bastards would do. From what was relaying, they’re very territorial, they eat anything the bleeds, and now they’ve taken Fletcher. Poor kid must be scared out of his wits. Even worse that I promised that he wouldn’t be eaten. With that, I went along with the search party to locate to the captured settlers while Motley and Hodge stay put to guard.

They didn’t went too far. But close enough from what we could see that they were all in cages. I am amazed that there were a few of them who looked more annoyed than scared. It is like they been through this sort of shenanigans before. Surprising me the most was Milly’s ability to calm down Fletcher. He normally doesn’t talk to others well, but there he was being cradled in her lap. Must remind myself to give gratitude to her as well.

Of course we were spotted in no time, Haeri being incredibly dodgy. Looked like both himself and his scaly foe were practically dancing. Gehrak went down like an offensive monument after a few hits. He was bleeding badly, but it took me a while to stablize him. Dunno how I did, though. Normally had been provided with healing potions after fighting in the pits.

Then something unusual happened. A grey dwarf appeared, looking incredibly nonchalant. I felt completely offended that he was purposely letting his guard down. Wanted to knock some sense into him, myself- but Gehrak was priority. Who knows what his mother would’ve done to me if I left him there to bleed. Chakka and Lucien seem alright to take him out so I remain put to make sure they weren’t anymore difficulties coming from Gehrak’s patchwork.

When the fight was over three people were out cold. Nothing too serious, just a bit of bruising, broken ribs, and hurt pride. Usual ailings, but what can you do about it? We broke the cages and got everyone out, but something there was a bit ill at ease. A document with detailed pictures of the six captives, written in Orc. It is apparent that we now have either slavers or bounty hunters on our tails now. But what throws me off is the fact that Fletcher is one of these bounties. He just a child- who in the hells would want his head? Either or, best for him is to change into a different form until we can find out why and who would be doing this sort of buggery.

Day 23

A fire was started on the alchemy wagon, a distraction if I ever saw one. Amalasuintha was kidnapped. We went to find them, they were taken by some Lizard-folk. Vile loathsome beasts, they stole the one person of import to me and they shall pay. During the fight the cleric and Chakka both fell, Lucian as well. We survived but only just. There was a note speaking of a dark one, I remember reading of many people or things going by that moniker but nothing too substantial to know who is targeting Milly. There were very precise details about her. If I find out who is behind it there will be no containing my wrath.

Day 16
As we continud through the twilight expanse we had our first moment of fear, a cloud ray loomed in the distance. Quite big creature, would not like to be on that thing’s bad side, not right now anyhow. I fear it could tear this caravan to shreds.
When it came to the nightly hunting party, we came across a dead dino, and some compies on it. we took one compie alive, and killed the other 3, without a single scratch. We harvested the remains.

Day 17
Lori, Haeri’s wife, got surrounded by blood hawks today, I had unfortunate luck, until by chance an arrow pierced the bird, right through it’s heart. After talking with Jack, we learned this birds occasionally serve evil masters. The guard was ramped up that night.

Day 18
Haeri came back from scouting saw some goblins on the road making a trap. We went and ruined their ambush. They’re leader, seemed magical our weapons were ignoring the fact he was there, as they argued about killing off the horde, Stehlen walked away. I don’t blame him. I thought about it as well. I mean I get disrupting them for now, but we need to stick with the caravan, and I voted such amongst us.
We later met a guy named Knight of Life Emergent, seemed strange to me with his tiger mount. Looked like he was magic in his life. He warned us a guardian at the bridge, and that we should not settle near his lady’s lands.

Day 19
Nothing happened, quiet day of nothing but travel with Brandy and listening to Breygon and Gilornor’s stories for me.

Day 20
Large tracks were spotted today, Largo, got agitated and scared everyone. I went and talked with Gilornor for a bit, before Ahmed called me over. Ahmed and I talked about dinosaurs. He wished to capture some and train them to be mounts an guards.

Day 21
We came to the bridge today, as we slowly crossed all seemed normal except for a few scratching noise, after crossing a large porcupine appeared, I tried to get behind it but it smacked me with it’s tail draining me and causing me to be delirious, I started to mutter some of the stories Gilornor speaks of sometimes, that I remember. We also found it had 3 children under the bridge. When the caravan crossed we pulled out the three, I gave them to Ahmed to be trained. He will do his best.

Day 22
Saw a were-mosquito. Wanted to grab and drink all of Ol’ Jack’s booze. Luckily Largo talked me out of it, need to be sharp, I’m the archer of the group. I still took a swig. As night fell I talked with Chao about mine and Ahmed’s plans. She supports this.

It's a long, hard road out of hell.

Day 19

Nothing interesting today, I had to use my magic to keep myself dry all day. Who cares?

Day 20

Today we found some tracks. One was of a giant and the other was of some sort of dinosaur. When we came back to the camp the others were told about our general situation and there was a mild panic. Largo, trying to calm everyone down almost starts a fight. I had to talk to him about it and help calm everyone down. Order must be maintained. Right now is not the time nor place to cause a panic.

Day 21

We got to the bridge and found the guardian. It was a porcupine that size of a horse. It was less of a guardian of the bridge and more a guardian of her young. Oh well, we took the pups and we shall try and raise them. We should be able to train them as guard animals. Amehd has been tasked with this endeavor. As we try and get to sleep we hear the sounds of giant creatures. They were fleas that had attacked our horses, one of them is killed while the one we were fighting flees.

Day 22

To the south we saw a Were-Mosquito grab and carry off a bighorn sheep to the south. I feel that we will have quite a ride ahead of us.

This is the first day of my last days.
Things happen

It is our 16th day since we have left The Nightlands for The Twilight Expanses. The trip this far is mostly uneventful. The only people worthy of conversation thus far seem to be Jack, or Ol’ Jack as people call him, Milly, Nadia and my brother. While we were out trying to find food we stumbled upon a few Compsognathus, they were a bit larger than James, that had either stumbled upon a feast for themselves or they were much more formidable than they showed us. In the skirmish that ensued they did not even scratch a single member of our hunting party. Due to that and from the remarks from Gehrak leads me to believe that it was something much larger, perhaps the Cloud Ray that we had seen earlier in the day. I hope not, for it would mean we are getting too close to it for my liking. We ate like kings.

Day 17

Today, Lori was surrounded by Blood Hawks. We managed to save her but in the process Haeri started to yell. I wanted to cast Color Spray on him so that he would quite down, we know too little about the surroundings to act like fools. To try and make up for our ignorance I asked Ol’ Jack about what beasts may dwell around here. He proved to have a wealth of knowledge and I feel that he may be our greatest asset, one that should not be thrown away so easily.

Day 18

Haeri went out scouting today, he found some goblins trying to catch food in the stupidest way possible. A box held open by a stick. I almost feel pity for these pathetic creatures. As the fight started to heat up the Cleric wanted us to capture them so as to interrogate them. What for? These creatures did us no harm, I can see killing them preemptively so as to protect the wagon. Or we could have just made a wide berth around the trap so as to not fall victim to it. I saw no reason to try and find their home, yesterday Haeri had his wife taken and he freaked out. Does no one see a parallel to how we are trying to treat these beings? Due to the injustice going on I refused to assist them further, thus I headed back to the caravan. We went scouting once again to try and locate the camp site that Ol’ Jack had in mind. While out scouting, we ran into an Elven looking person, he called himself Knight of Life Emergent. I do not trust him though any information about the area is something more valuable than my own feelings. He gave us some information about the road ahead, a giant to the sound, some boggards and something he called the “Charau-Ka”, whatever that is. He also mentioned a guardian on the bridge ahead but none asked him to elaborate. Perhaps I should work a bit me on my people skills. I make myself laugh. What information I truly need I can get out of a book or from Jack. Speaking of Jack, he told me of a village that we are heading to and told me a little of how it is ran.

Gehrak's Journal
1

We saved Lori Kud from a flock of evil birds. We scared them away but another in the party said that they may fly in larger groups. We’ll need to be on the look out. Lori should be fine, especially after a bit of divine intervention from Torag as directed by me.

Today Haeri found a trap that was bing made by filthy goblins. We attacked them as we should, dismantling their poorly conceived and implemented trap. I’m not sure what’s worse leaving their waren alone due to needing to move on, or their horrible planing and the fact that they’re goblins. The leader had the magic of an evil god protecting it no doubt. Lucien struck it quite hard with his mace and the creature didn’t even bleed. I’ve made a note of it with the cartographer and made a note in this journal to come back to, resolve this issue.
